In road construction (Surface treatment for asphalt application) as well as in construction chemistry cationic latex is used in addition to anionic latex. The chemical basis for this is either chloroprene latex (CR), natural latex (NR) or styrene butadiene latex (SBR).

For road construction the latex is used to improve cationic bitumen emulsions for surface treatment in asphalt application. For this all types of latex can be treated with all common methods of application in cold bitumen processes. Depending on the requirements, some types are also suitable for hot processes. The properties of the pure bitumen emulsion are positively influenced by improving the bitumen. This includes the following properties:

• Elastic provision in accordance
  with DIN EN 1427
• Elastic provision in accordance
  with DIN V 52021-2 at +7°C

• • Fraass breaking point in accordance
    with DIN EN 12593
  • Softening point - ring and ball method in accordance with DIN EN 1427

  Even when it is cold, the pure latex is characterised by a very high degree of flexibility as well as good water resistance. The polymer film has very high strength while being able to stretch and so displays a high level of elasticity.
  The properties mentioned are also achieved by the use of cationic latex in the production of construction chemistry. This also includes use as an additional ingredient in sealants, bonding compounds, mortar, adhesive, etc.
  Therefore with the addition of our cationic latex the strength, toughness and ductility as well as the softening point, low-temperature flexibility and resistance to aging are increased in the final application.
